There are a fair few John Cooper Works Minis in the UAE, whether R56 Hardtops such as mine, Coupe’s, Countrymans, Pacemen and even one or two GP2’s, however I very much doubt they would match up to Jeff Sargent’s 2013 Chilli Pepper JCW.
Jeff bought his R56 John Cooper Works last year and has been steadily modifying it over the last few months. He brought Chilli Pepper along to the last Mini Club Dubai Roadtrip to Hatta but has made a few “minor” modifications since.
Current specifications for Chilli Pepper are a Stage 3 Remap, Akrapovic Exhaust (standard downpipe, as it would fail the emissions test in USA), Carbon Fibre Exhaust tips, Wagner Front Mounted Intercooler, GP2 rear diffuser and Mini OEM retrofit daytime running lights. All fitted and dyno’d at PPPerformance in Abu Dhabi.
Current output is now 278 BHP (vs standard 211) and 315Nm or torque. Now the standard JCW is no slouch, however when Jeff asked me if I wanted to take Chilli Pepper for a spin, I couldn’t refuse.
After a drive around Yas Island, we went out into the desert to find some quiet roads to get some panning shots, not ideal shooting conditions at midday, however did get a couple.
I must admit to excessive use of profanity firstly when he zoomed off and left my Pocket JCW for dead and secondly when I took Chilli Pepper for a brief spin. The power going through those front wheels was immense. No stopwatches handy I’m afraid but needless to say damned fast and smooth as well. Top speed, I could not possibly comment.
I did advise him to upgrade the standard JCW 4 pot Brembo’s to the 6 pot Brembo’s that come with the GP2. He is also looking to upgrade to adjustable coilovers and new panel filter in the future as well.
This monster Mini is sadly leaving these shores to accompany Jeff to the USA next month, but hopefully he and Chilli Pepper will return in the future. For quotations on the modifications made, contact PPPerformance in Abu Dhabi or their authorised dealer in Dubai, Simon Motorsport.
