The first Mini Club Dubai roadtrip of the year was to Musandam in Oman. The Musandam peninsula juts out into the Strait of Hormuz, which is the entry point into the Persian Gulf.
We met up, at our usual place at Ace Hardware in Dubai Festival City, and set out towards Ras Al Khaimah and the border with Oman. The Emirates Road was closed northbound due to resurfacing, so we had a slight detour through Umm Al Qawain.
Eventually we made it through Ras Al Khaimah, with most of the city centre major road works finished and headed towards the border crossing at Al Darah.
Crossing the border took longer than expected due to the arrival of a Harley Davidson Chapter at the same time. Passports, registration cards and insurance documents were remembered though (by most).
Once we were through, we started on the 45 minute drive along the stunning Khasab coastal road, which starts along the beach side and winds itself up into the peninsula and back down. The views are amazing, however slow going if you get stuck behind a lorry!
We stopped off at the Atana Hotel (formally The Golden Tulip) for lunch, which sits on top of the rocks near to the town of Khasab.
If we had more time, we would have driven down into Khasab itself and got some photos near the fishing boats and dhows but it was getting late so we headed back to the border and onto Dubai.
Everyone made it back in one piece, albeit Pocket took a bang when I didnt see a speed hump and flew over it at 80kph..oops.
Thanks to Amelie at Ace Hardware Festival City and Sam at the Atana Khasab Hotel for their hospitality.
